2008 Scholarship Winners

Division I

Sadie Schwarz of Fairfield High School

Sadie Schwarz of Fairfield High School has been awarded the Division I Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2008.  Sadie is the daughter of Dan and Diana Schwarz of Hamilton, Ohio.  Sadie receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.
   

Sadie is ranked 25th of 791 with a four year grade point average of 4.18.  She plans to attend the Ohio State University or Duke University.


                Sadie was a member of many school and community related organizations such as the National Honor Society, SADD, the J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation, and the Agents of Change Diversity Group (NCCCJ).   She also is involved in the Fairfield Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Fairfield and Students Promoting Arts to the Masses.

Sadie has received high honors (4.0) all four years of high school.   She received the Best of Show Award at both the Butler County Fair Art Display and the Junior AP Art Display.   She was selected for the Regional level of the Governor's Art Show as well as a 2 nd place finish in the Miami University's Technical Skills Competition.

Sadie was a First Team All-Conference selection in volleyball and she led the conference in digs.   She was named All-Academic for the GMC in 2006 and 2007.    Sadie was selected as the Fairfield Echo's Athlete of the Week in 2007.   Sadie was coached by Stephanie Meibers. 

 


            The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship is awarded annually to a player from one of its coaching members' schools.  The student-athlete must be in good academic standing with plans to continue her education after high school.

Division II

Molly Scholl of John Glenn High School

Molly Scholl of John Glenn High School has been awarded the Division II Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2008.  Molly is the daughter of David and Sandra Scholl of Cambridge, Ohio.  Molly receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Molly is ranked 1st of 167 with a four year grade point average of 4.0.  She plans to attend Muskingum College to study Chemistry.               

Molly was a member of many school and community related organizations such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, Ambassador Club and Key Club.   She is also a member of the Choir and served as treasurer and viola section leader for the orchestra.   Molly is a presenter at local high schools for CATS (Concerned About Teen Sexuality).

Molly was on the Principal's List (4.0) all four years of high school.   She was one of five John Glenn students selected to the Guerney Youth Leadership Seminar.   Molly is a member of the College Drive Presbyterian Church where she serves as a nursery volunteer, Bible school leader, speaker for Senior Sunday, and participated in the CROP Walk for four years.   Molly was also a scholarship winner (sophomore and junior years) for the Festival of Learning sponsored by the People's Bank.

Molly was a four year letter winner for volleyball.   She was a First Team Muskingum Valley League selection for 3 years, was named 2 nd Team All-District 12 as a sophomore and was a 1 st Team All-District 12 selection as a junior and senior.   Molly was named the District 12 Player of the Year in 2007.   She was also named to the Honorable Mention All-Ohio Team in 2007.   Molly was coached by Trent Cubbison. 

Molly was a four year letter winner in basketball and was named Honorable Mention All-League.   She was named the Daily Jeffersonian Basketball Player of the Week during her junior year.   Molly was a three year letter winner in softball and was named 1 st Team All-League and 2 nd Team All-District 12 as a junior.

Division III

Ashley Claprood of Utica High School

Ashley Claprood of Utica High School has been awarded the Division III Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2008.  Ashley is the daughter of Patrick Claprood and Jonalin Pearce of Utica, Ohio.  Ashley receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.
   

Ashley is ranked 1st of 127 with a four year grade point average of 4.113.  She plans to attend Miami University to study Pre-Med.


                Ashley was a member of many school and community related organizations such as the National Honor Society and Student Government where she served as president of both of those her senior year.   She is also a member of the HANDS Service Club, Youth to Youth of Licking County, and the PRIDE team of Licking County.   Ashley served as a hospital volunteer and Special Olympics volunteer.

Ashley earned the All A's Award (for having all A's throughout the entire year) grades 9-11.   She was named Student of the Year as a junior, was named Student of the Month in grades 9-12, and received the Superintendent's Certificate of Excellence as a senior.   Ashley was a delegate to Buckeye Girls State and participated in HOBY Ohio South.   She also received the President's Volunteer Service Award from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.

Ashley was a two year varsity letter winner in volleyball.   In 2006 she received the Coaches Award.   In 2007 Ashley served as a captain and was named Most Valuable Player.   She was a 2 nd Team Mid Buckeye Conference selection and was named to the Honorable Mention Central District team.   Ashley was coached by Kathy Stevens. Ashley played on the JV softball team as a freshman.

Division IV

Abby Schroeder of Kalida High School

Abby Schroeder of Kalida High School has been awarded the Division IV Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2008.  Abby is the daughter of Tim and Karen Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Ohio.  Abby receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.
   

Abby is ranked 5th of 47 with a four year grade point average of 3.8.  She plans to attend Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Southfield Michigan and pursue a degree in Architecture.


                Abby was a member of many school and community related organizations such as the National Honor Society where she served as secretary.   She is also a member of Foreign Language Club, Prom Committee, and the CATS Who Care volunteer group.   Abby is an elementary/junior high tutor, Saint Michael's mass server, youth group member and participates in the Youth Education Volunteer Program.   She is also a member of the Academic Club/Quiz Team.

Abby is an Honor Roll Student, recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award, and is involved with Family Career and Community Leaders of America.   She is an AP course enrollee and attends Catholic Christian Doctrine classes.

In volleyball, Abby was named Honorable Mention Putnam County League in 2005 and 1 st Team in 2006 and 2007.   She was named 1 st Team All-District 8 in 2006 and 2007.   In 2007, Abby was selected to play in the District 8 All-Star Match as well as the OHSVCA All-Star Match.   She was named Honorable Mention All-Ohio in 2006 and 2 nd Team All-Ohio in 2007.   Abby was coached by Jeremy Stober.    Abby was also a softball letter winner and had the highest batting average for her team in 2006.   She has played club volleyball for the Findlay Oilers VBC and the Stars and Spikes VBC.

Active Member's Son / Daughter Scholarship

Emily Bowling of Symmes Valley High School

Emily Bowling of Symmes Valley High School has been awarded the Active Member's Son / Daughter Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2008.  Emily is the daughter of Jeff and Becky Bowling of Kitts Hill, Ohio.  Becky Bowling is a volleyball coach at Symmes Valley High School and active OHSVCA member for nine years.   Emily receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.  

Emily will graduate 1st in her class of 72 with a four year grade point average of 4.0.  Emily plans to attend The Ohio State University and she will major in Pre-Med.

                Emily was a member of many school and community related organizations including the National Honor Society.   She is the Beta Club secretary and is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes captain and devotional leader.   Emily is on the Yearbook staff, is a member of the Oakland Chapel Youth Group, All-Ohio Underclass tournament team, and the Quiz Bowl.   Emily is the Senior Class President, participates in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life as the team captain and is the student delegate for the People to People Student Ambassador program.   She is a Ronald McDonald house volunteer, participated in the Building Bridges leadership and diversity conference and served on the Angel Tree Committee to provide needy children with Christmas gifts.

            Emily has received many academic awards including being named Valedictorian, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Perfect Attendance (9, 10), and Outstanding Attendance (11).   She was on the Honor Roll all four years and will receive a diploma with honors.   Emily received an Award of Merit, was a Quiz Bowl speaker and 4-H Club Treasurer.   She is a Church Sound/Video Technician and a SCORES participant in Chemistry.

            In basketball Emily was named 2 nd Team All-Conference for two years, 2nd Team All-District as a junior and was team captain for two years.   In softball she was named 1 st Team All-Conference (9,10,11), 2 nd Team All-District (9) and 1 st Team All-District (10,11).   Emily was named 2 nd Team All-State in softball her sophomore year and 1 st team All-State her junior year.   She was the District Softball Player of the Year in 2007.

            In volleyball, Emily was a 2 nd Team All-Conference selection her freshman year and was 1 st Team All-Conference for two years.   She was a District Honorable Mention selection (12), 2 nd Team (10) and 1 st Team selection (11).   Emily served as the volleyball team captain for two seasons and holds the school record for most aces in a season.


                The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Active Member's Son / Daughter College Scholarships are awarded annually.  The student-athlete must be in good academic standing with plans to continue her education after high school.

Megan Lilley of Canton Central Catholic High School

Megan Lilley of Canton Central Catholic High School has been awarded the Active Member's Son / Daughter Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2008.  Megan is the daughter of Bill and Debbie Lilley of North Canton, Ohio.  Debbie Lilley is a volleyball coach at Canton Central Catholic High School and active OHSVCA member for twenty years.   Megan receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.  

Megan will graduate 5th in her class of 424 with a four year grade point average of 4.0.  Megan plans to attend Northwestern University and she will major in Business Management.

                Megan is a member of many school and community related organizations including the National Honor Society, Leadership Council and Key Club.   She is also a member of the Spanish Club, Youth Staff, and Senior Citizens Prom.   Megan is a coach for the Ohio Slammers softball team.

            Megan has received many academic awards including being named a National Merit Semifinalist and a four year member of the Honor Roll.

            Megan has been a four year letter winner in softball.   She received the Batting Award for the highest batting average (10,11) and holds the school record for the most doubles in one season with 17.   As a sophomore Megan was named 2 nd Team All-League while helping her team to a State Championship title.   As a junior she was named 1 st Team Federal League, Beacon Journal and Northeast Ohio.   She was also named Honorable Mention All-Ohio as a junior while helping her team to a regional final.
