2006 Scholarship Winners

Division I

Sally Ogle of Lakota West High School has been awarded the Division I Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2006.  Sally is the daughter of Jim and Julie Ogle of Cincinnati, Ohio.  Sally receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Sally is ranked 18th of 613 with a four year grade point average of 4.3389.  She plans to attend the Ohio State University to major in Chemical Engineering.

Sally was a member of many school and community related organizations such as the Spanish Honor Society, Peer Counseling, Senior Board of Governors, Pride Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Ohio Reads. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, J. Kyle Braid leadership group, Vice-President of the Spanish Club, Welcome Committee and LW Focus group. Sally is the Rotary Club Service Recognition Winner, Optimist Club Junior Teen of the Month, Lakota West Principal’s Leadership Award and VIP winner and in the Lakota West Top 25. Sally has received the GMC, District 16 and OHSVCA All-Academic awards and also received the Lakota West Attendance Award.

Sally was a three year letter winner in volleyball. She was team captain, received the Firebird Award, and was named Taco Bell’s Athlete of the Week.  Sally was coached by Tracey Kornau. Sally also lettered in basketball.  In basketball she served as a captain and received the Team Leadership Award and Team Player Award.

Division II

Laura Schumaker of Shawnee High School has been awarded the Division II Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2006.  Laura is the daughter of Robyn Koch-Schumaker and Stephen Schumaker of Springfield, Ohio.  Laura receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Laura is ranked 4th of 210 with a four year grade point average of 4.570.  She plans to attend Wittenberg University to major in Biology and Spanish.

Laura was a member of many school and community related organizations such as Student Council, Key Club, FCA, and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Laura served as Student Council secretary in 2004 and president in 2005. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, a four year member of the Principal’s List, and received All-CBC Academic Awards. Laura also won awards in Biology, Spanish and Social Studies.

Laura was a four year letter winner in volleyball and was team captain for two years.  She was named the 2005 All-County Player of the Year, 1st Team All-CBC, 1st Team All-District and 1st Team All-County.  Laura was named Honorable Mention All-Ohio in 2005.  Laura was coached by Dennis Dahlberg. 

Laura also lettered in swimming and track.  In 2005 she finished 20th in the OHSAA state swim meet in the 200 free and set a school record.  In 2003 she finished 8th in the OHSAA state track meet in the 4 x 200 and set a school record.  In track she was also named all-county and all-area.

Division III

Tracy Needham of River Valley High School has been awarded the Division III Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2006.  Tracy is the daughter of Harlan and Sandy Needham of Caledonia, Ohio.  Tracy receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Tracy is ranked 4th of 109 with a four year grade point average of 4.0.  She plans to attend Otterbien College to major in Accounting.

Tracy was a member of many school and community related organizations such as the Salem United Methodist Youth Group, Marion Volleyball Club, Angels with an Attitude Softball team and is Vice-President of the Marion County Teen Board.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society, a four year academic letter recipient and received All-MOAC Academic Awards.  Tracy also is a member of Who’s Who among American High School Students, US Achievement Academy and won Straight A Academic trophies.

Tracy was a three year letter winner in volleyball and was also a team captain.  She was named to the Granville Invitational All-Star team for two years and was named Most Improved for two years.  Tracy was named 1st Team All-MOAC and 1st Team All-Central District.  She was also named Honorable Mention All-Ohio in 2005.  Tracy was coached by Jayne Klingel. 

Tracy also lettered in basketball and softball.  In basketball she was a varsity letter winner and had the Most Rebounds.  In softball she is a three year varsity letter winner and was named Most Improved and Honorable Mention All-MOAC.  Tracy was in the Top 5 in On Base Percentage, Batting Average and RBI’s.

Division IV

Leslie Hoelscher of Fort Loramie High School has been awarded the Division IV Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2006.  Leslie is the daughter of Jeff and Lori Hoelscher of Fort Loramie, Ohio.  Leslie receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Leslie is ranked 2nd of 65 with a four year grade point average of 3.950.  She plans to major in Medical Technology in college.

Leslie was a member of many school and community related organizations such as SADD, the JETS Team, Spanish Club and Yearbook staff.  She is also a member of the National Honor Society and was an Ohio Reads volunteer.  Leslie also is a member of Who’s Who among American High School Students, National Honor Roll, and was a four year academic letter recipient.

Leslie was her team’s Best Offensive player for three seasons and Co-MVP in 2004 and 2005.  She was a three time Second Team All-District player and three time First Team All-County player.  Leslie was also named Honorable Mention All-Ohio in 2003, Third Team All-Ohio in 2004 and Second Team All-Ohio in 2005.  Leslie was coached by Kirby King. 

Leslie also lettered in basketball.  In basketball she was named 2nd Team All-County.  In 2003 she was her team’s Most Improved Player and in 2004 had the Most Rebounds.


Active Member's Son / Daughter Scholarship

Samantha Klink of East Liverpool High School has been awarded the Active Member’s Son / Daughter Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2006.  Samantha is the daughter of Robert and Ann Shansky of East Liverpool, Ohio.  Robert Shansky is the head volleyball coach at East Liverpool High School and active OHSVCA member for twenty-three years.  Samantha receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Samantha will graduate with a four year grade point average of 4.0.  She is ranked 1st in her class of 200 students.  Samantha plans to major in mathematics and secondary education in college.

Samantha was a member of many school and community related organizations.  During her senior year she is serving as the secretary for the National Honor Society and secretary for the Student Senate.  Her junior year she was the treasurer for the Student Booster Club and is president her senior year.  She is a four year member of the Thespian Troupe serving as Historian, President and was a student director for five plays.  Samantha was named the Kiwanis Scholar in September 2005 and was also named a Kodak Young leader.

Samantha played volleyball for four years at East Liverpool High School and was captain in 2005.  Her senior year she was named OVAC Second Team, OVAC All-Star Team Alternate, Columbian County Volleyball Coaches Second Team, and District 1 Division II Honorable Mention.

Victoria “Tory” Henkle of Parkway High School has been awarded the Active Member’s Son / Daughter Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association College Scholarship for 2006.  Tory is the daughter of Todd and Julie Henkle of Rockford, Ohio.  Todd Henkle is the head volleyball coach at Parkway High School and active OHSVCA member for fifteen years.  Tory receives a $500 award for her academic and athletic accomplishments.

Tory will graduate with a four year grade point average of 3.318.  She is ranked 21st in her class of 96 students.  Tory plans to attend Bluffton College and major in Interior Design.

Tory was a member of many school and community related organizations such as Choir, Pep Club, FCA and Science Club.  During her senior year she is serving as the president of the Luther League.

Tory played volleyball for four years at Parkway High School earning three varsity letters.  She has earned her team’s Setting Award and her senior year she was named Honorable Mention Midwest Athletic Conference and played in the District 8 All-Star Match.  She has played for the Black Cat Volleyball Club for 1 year, Northwest VBC for 2 years and the Grandlake VBC for 3 years.  Tory also played softball for one season.
